There were unusual ice cream flavors
During the mid-18th century, people had figured out ways to store ice for longer periods of time. So people started to try out cold desserts as a result. In no time, ice cream had become a popular treat among the higher classes of the colonies, and there were plenty of delicious and unusual flavors to choose from.
In 1776, the first ice cream parlor opened in New York, and the term “ice cream” became popular throughout the region. Back then, this dessert was not only sweet. Some people also chose peculiar flavors like eel, asparagus, or chestnuts. But they also had the common sweet flavors we know today.
