This fearsome samurai helmet has a very unique decoration
Samurai were the fiercest of Japanese warriors. Their helmet, or kabuto, was an integral part of the armor and was usually made to frighten or intimidate enemies. Some even came with terrifying masks, while others were adorned with horns, crab claws, or rabbit ears. This next example has quite a unique topper.
An octopus. The high quality of the materials and the construction indicate that this belonged to a high-ranking samurai. The helmet itself is made of steel plates, and the neck guard is too, although it is covered with lacquered leather and the strips are sewn together with silk thread. The decorative octopus is made out of iron and is overlaid with paper mâché.
