Cats were believed to bring good luck in Ancient Egypt
In the many centuries that the ancient Egyptians were around, they had time to perfect several different skills. The art of building monumental tombs and statues was one of them, but the art of jewelry may be a close second. Jewelry was important for the Egyptians, and this ring is a perfect example of the skill with which it was made.
The frame is made of gold and the stone is a cornelian bezel masterfully carved into the shape of a cat. In Ancient Egypt, cats were believed to be magical and to bring good fortune to those who housed them. Underneath the stone, there is a carving of the Eye of Horus, which represented well-being and protection.
