This Ancient Egyptian palette is over 3,000 years old and still has its paint cakes
The Ancient Egyptians were one of the most important civilizations in human history, and, fortunately, a surprising amount of records about how they lived and how their society was made up survive today. Amongst these records are hundreds of artifacts that show the Egyptian’s incredible architectural, engineering, and artistic feats.
This paint palette is of a smaller scale, but it still gives invaluable insight into their culture. It dates back to the reign of Amenhotep III, which was a time of great prosperity for the Egyptians. It was carved from a single piece of ivory and the six cakes include blue, green, yellow, red, and black pigments, and what might be a brown pigment as well.
