An impeccably preserved outfit fit for a king’s funeral
A king’s funeral is a momentous occasion, and if you are invited, you must make sure that your outfit is appropriate for both the grandiosity and the solemnity of the occasion. This is precisely what the owner of this suit sought to achieve. This mourning suit belonged to Count Magnus Brahe, who wore it for the funeral of King Karl XIV Johan of Sweden in 1844.
It was especially important for Brahe to have the appropriate attire since he was the King’s favorite, and they were reportedly good friends. The Count was very influential in the kingdom’s affairs, and the richness of his suit is proof of his high status. The sleeves are lined with yellow taffeta, the pockets are edged in silk spool.
