This beautiful dish from Iran would look great in a modern ceramics shop
Did you know that the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston has a special collection of Asian ceramics? It is called the Hossein Afshar Collection, and it focuses on pieces that show the interconnection between Chinese and Persian styles of ceramics. This bowl is part of it and it is so pretty that you will probably want to get one for yourself.
The bowl is made out of stone paste and was glazed in turquoise. The fish are arranged in a rosette pattern, which looks similar to the sun and was believed to bring good fortune to the object’s owner. The pairing of black and transparent blue was common at the time. In this dish, it produces a visual effect similar to being underwater.
