There is a church in Ethiopia that is only accessible by climbing
There is an ancient rock in the Tigray region of Ethiopia that hides a holy secret. Inside it stands the Orthodox Church of Abuna Yemata Guh, which can only be accessed by climbing 1,000 feet up a cliff face. Ethiopia was one of the first regions where Christianity was adopted and has several of these hidden temples. Its 5th-century murals are its best-kept secret.
The church is covered in murals depicting parables and important figures of Christianity. The arid climate has gone a long way toward preserving the wonderful animal fat paints, so the colors still look bright even though the paint is centuries old. Both the murals and the church itself are thought to be the work of Syrian Saint Binyam.
