There is a thirteen-story well in India that dates back to the 8th century
Although it may be hard to believe, this construction is actually a well. It is called Chand Baori and is located in the village of Rajasthan. It boasts India’s deepest and largest stairwell with its 3,500 steps. It is closed off now, but locals used to go down to access the waters and to escape the heat since the deepest part of the well is 5 degrees colder than the surface.
A curious fact about it is that the oldest parts of the structure date back to the 8th century, and the newest to the 18th. This means the stepwell groups wildly different architectural styles from two eras 1000 years apart. The arches at the top belong to the Mughal style of architecture, while the lower parts are very different.
