Coral Produces Its Own Sunscreen
We all love to slather sunscreen on our skin when we are soaking in the sun. While we love the sun, too much can damage the skin and cause cancer. But, do you know another creature that loves sunscreen? Coral! Coral love sunscreen so much that they produce their own.
Did you know that sunlight can damage the algae that live inside coral in shallow water? So, to protect the algae, a primary source of food for coral, the coral creates proteins that act as a sunscreen for the algae.
