The mythical city Heracleion
Heracleion was a city at the mouth of the Nile River, which the sea has consumed at an event that still remains a mystery. The town occupied a relevant place in Greek mythology: it was the place that Helen of Troy and her lover, Paris, visited before the Trojan War.
About six kilometers from the current Egyptian coast, on the bottom of the seabed, a wall has been discovered, and behind it the remains of a vast temple of ancient Egypt. The experts found many things: colossal statues, ceremonial vessels, gold, jewels, coins, ancient shipwrecks, and more.
