Palmier – France
The word “palmier” in French means is short for “Feuille de palmier” or, in English, “palm tree leaf.” This cookie is also known as Pig’s Ear, Palm Heart, Palm Tree, or Prussiens. It is made from puff pastry, butter, and sugar. Palmier is shaped like an early 20th-century French pastry that comes in the form of a palm leaf, a heart, or a butterfly.
Although it is widely approved that France is where Palmiers were first created. Somewhere in the early 20th century, some others claimed that Vienna, Austria, is where they were first produced. In the same vein, the invention of Palmiers is frequently attributed to a similar baking technique used in Middle Eastern pastries like baklava, even though no one is convinced of its exact origins.
